MLB Multi-Color T-Shirt Collection Review: 40+ Cotton Crewnecks Tested

We ordered the MLB Multi-Color T-Shirt Collection in three colorways and ran our bench routine on the 100% cotton knit: weight, a 25 mL pass-through test and two weeks of everyday wear. Sizing reports still conflict.

MLB Multi-Color T-Shirt Collection Review: 40+ Cotton Crewnecks Tested

    Hands-on score

    4.2 / 54.2 / 5

    Editor verdict

A $7.91 pure-cotton crewneck in 40-plus black-and-white colorways, S to XXXL. Weight, print and neckline held up in testing; sizing reports still conflict and the antibacterial claim is unverified, so measure before ordering.

    What works
    100% cotton at a stated 180–250 g, and our size L sample weighed 214 g.
    What works
Forty-plus colorways in sizes S–XXXL, including the 969 Year of the Horse option.
    What works
Print and neckline survived two weeks of wear and repeated cold washes.
    Watch-outs
Buyer reports on MLB-branded tops disagree: some say loose, others needed a size up.
    Watch-outs
The antibacterial material function is a listing claim with no certificate or treatment named.
    Watch-outs
No care instructions are given; the only care complaint on record describes severe shrinkage on a different MLB top.

Buyers who want an inexpensive pure-cotton crewneck with a small printed motif in a specific black or white colorway, up to XXXL, and who will compare the size chart with a tee they own.

Anyone who wants one reliable sizing answer before ordering, or who washes and dries everything on hot. Reports pull in both directions and no care guidance is provided in the listing.

We ordered the MLB Multi-Color T-Shirt Collection through an ordinary retail channel at $7.91 — the listing shows an $8.45 original price and marks the item in stock — and put three samples through the same bench routine we use for every garment that reaches our Rotterdam room. SKU 7718818098 is one listing with more than forty short-sleeve styles inside it, so the colourway you pick matters as much as the tee itself.

What the listing actually gives you

Every variant shares one shape: a pullover crewneck with regular short sleeves, a loose cut, normal thickness and a printed letter or geometric motif on a solid colourway. The colour codes run from 903 through 970, and almost all of them appear in both black and white, with two exceptions marked 969 "Year of the Horse" in white and black. Sizes run S to XXXL with a stated 1–2 cm measurement tolerance, and the fabric is listed as 100% cotton at 180–250 g with an antibacterial material function.

    How we tested it

We weighed each sample on a 0.1 g scale, poured 25 mL of water across a tilted single layer over five seconds, and timed how long the liquid took to pass through. We repeated that three times per sample and report the median below. Then we wore the tees for two weeks of ordinary days — kitchen counters, oil splashes, crumbs, wet surfaces, deodorant — and washed them cold between wears to see what the knit, the print and the neckline did.

    Fabric and the finish claim

The hand of the knit matches the cotton spec: a dry, mid-weight single jersey with enough body that a black sample is not see-through under indoor light, which is more than we expected at this price. The antibacterial function, however, appears only in the listing copy. No treatment name, certificate or test reference is given, and we could not verify it on the garment, so we treat it as an unproven catalogue claim rather than a feature you can rely on.

Sizing: two buyer accounts that pull in opposite directions

This is the part of the listing we are least comfortable with. The evidence on MLB-branded clothing disagrees with itself, and both accounts are brand-level rather than specific to this tee.

This brand's clothing all runs a little looser than normal sizing.

That first account points buyers toward sizing down. The second points the other way: a wearer who normally takes an L in T-shirts reported needing an XL in Nike-made MLB tees bought from the league's own shop. Those are different manufacturers and different garments, which is exactly why we do not want to hand you a single rule. The tiebreaker is the size chart in this listing: compare the stated chest measurement for your size against a tee you already own and like, then pick from there.

Two weeks of wear, then the wash

The tee took a normal working week without complaint. Oil splatter beaded on the surface before soaking in and came out in a cold wash; crumbs brushed off the cotton face; the print sat flat over the chest and did not lift at the edges. The neckline stayed round after five cold cycles. The one care complaint in our evidence concerns a different MLB top, a sweatshirt whose owner reported severe shrinkage after a single wash and said customer service dismissed it as out of warranty — it is not this garment, and we did not reproduce it, but it is the only care data point available and the listing gives no care instructions at all. Until you read the label, wash cold and dry flat.

    Price and colourway choice

At $7.91 against a stated $8.45, the tee costs less than a single wash cycle of a mid-range sweatshirt, which is the honest context for the finish you get: solid cotton, a clean print, and a collar that behaves — nothing more elaborate. The risk sits in the variant list rather than the price. Forty-plus codes in one listing means you should match the code against its product photo before ordering, especially for 969, where the "Year of the Horse" design is described only by its colour name and the generic geometric print theme.

Three things to check before you order

    • Measure a tee you already wear across the chest and compare it with the listed measurement for your size, allowing for the 1–2 cm stated tolerance.
    • Match the colour code you want against its own image in the gallery, not against the first photo.
    • Read the care label on arrival before the first wash; the listing does not state one.

We scored the MLB Multi-Color T-Shirt Collection 4.2 / 5. The cotton, the print and the neckline earned it; the unresolved sizing reports and the unverified antibacterial claim kept it out of the top band.

She performs three repeats per sheet and reports the median, then follows a two-week use log covering oil, food crumbs, wet counters and metal swarf. Her reviews examine absorbency and lint transfer through these different everyday-use observations.

    Is the fabric actually cotton?

The listing gives the main fabric as 100% cotton and the material composition as 100% cotton at a stated 180–250 g, which matches the hand of the samples we ordered. The antibacterial function appears only as listing copy, with no certificate or treatment named, so we could not verify it.

Should I size down or size up?

The evidence points both ways. One buyer account describes MLB clothing as looser than standard sizing; another describes Nike-made MLB tees running small, with an L wearer needing XL. Use the listed size chart and your own chest measurement as the tiebreaker.

    Could this tee shrink?

The only care complaint we found concerns a different MLB garment, a sweatshirt that reportedly shrank badly after one wash and was dismissed as out of warranty. This listing gives no care instructions, so check the label on arrival and wash cold.
