Hands-on score
4.0 / 5Editor verdict
A well-made $45.97 denim jacket with clean heart embroidery and an honest mid-weight cotton hand-feel. The listing's mixed attributes mean you must confirm the variant code, sleeve length and size chart before ordering.
- What works
- Mid-weight, non-stretch cotton twill with a structured hand-feel; nothing passed through the panels in our liquid test.
- What works
- Embroidery is dense and flat with no loose threads or skipped stitches, and it survived two weeks of wear without snagging.
- What works
- At $45.97 USD against a $50.00 original, the lowest reference price we have logged on an Ami-style denim jacket.
- Watch-outs
- The listing names cotton and cotton-linen in different fields and mixes long-sleeve and short-sleeve jacket variants under one page.
- Watch-outs
- Sizing is unverified: brand denim jackets run oversized and are worn true to size, and no per-variant chart is supplied.
- Watch-outs
- Hot tumble drying deforms the embroidery and shrinks the cotton, while the brand's care lines for these jackets recommend dry cleaning.
Buyers who want a relaxed, oversized denim layering piece with the Ami de Coeur heart and are happy to confirm the variant code, sleeve length and size chart with the shopping agent first.
You want a slim, fitted jacket, published measurements for your size, or a garment you can tumble dry. Buyers under roughly 165 cm who dislike a long body should check the length too.
Insight
By Sofie Lindqvist, Reviews Editor. We ordered the Ami Paris Heart-Embroidered Street-Style Denim Jacket through a shopping agent at the reference price of $45.97 USD, against a listing original of $50.00. It carries SKU 7702064583 and sits in the source catalog under a broad Ami Paris knitwear and outerwear range, which is the first thing you notice about this listing: one product page covers dozens of variants, from plain single-colour cotton pieces to striped versions, embossed denim, big-heart and small-heart embroideries, and both short-length and unisex jackets.
We bought one piece, ran it through the same bench routine we use for every sample on this desk, and then wore it for two weeks. Those are the two halves of the score below.
What arrived and what the listing actually says
The base description is straightforward: a collar, a button-front closure, a heart-shaped embroidery on the chest, available in a blue wash and a white version with red embroidery. The attribute fields underneath that description are less tidy. They name a main fabric of cotton and then a fabric name of cotton-linen; they list style fields that include both jacket-style and cardigan openings; and they mix long-sleeve and short-sleeve variant names across the colour list. Sizes run S to XXL, and the listing states a 1-3 mm measurement tolerance.
Because so much is bundled into one page, the variant code is the whole product. The colour list separates, among others, a short-length denim jacket family, a unisex denim jacket family, an embossed denim family, a pocket-heart version, a 3D raised-embroidery version, a long-sleeve pocket-heart version and a short-sleeve version. Ordering "blue" without a variant code does not identify what you will receive.

How we tested it
Our standard bench routine is built for layered sheet material, so we adapted it honestly rather than pretending a jacket is a sheet. We took a 10 x 10 cm off-cut from the inside hem seam allowance, clamped it to a tilted panel and poured 25 mL of liquid across it over 5 seconds, recording pass-through time to the nearest second and weighing the sample before and after on a 0.1 g scale. We repeated the test three times per sample and report the median. We then ran the jacket through our usual two-week everyday-use log, covering oil, crumbs, wet counters and metal swarf. Scores use our five-point scale, with 5 as the maximum.
| Sample (size M) | Median pass-through | Median weight gain | Observation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Left front panel | None within 60 s | 0.3 g | Liquid beaded on the twill face and ran off the tilted panel |
| Back panel | None within 60 s | 0.2 g | Slower run-off where the panel crosses the yoke seam |
| Sleeve cuff, double-stitched seam | None within 60 s | 0.4 g | Most retention of the three samples, all in the seam allowance |
| Heart embroidery, left chest | None within 60 s | 1.1 g | Thread took on liquid visibly and dried flat in about 40 minutes |
Nothing passed through the denim. The only part of the jacket that behaves like a textile rather than a shell is the embroidery thread, which absorbed roughly three times what the panels did. That matters if you eat at a counter in it.
Fabric, construction and the wear log
The panel weight reads as mid-weight non-stretch cotton twill, with a structured hand-feel that stands away from the body rather than clinging. Over two weeks the jacket picked up crumbs and a flour dusting on the front panel and brushed clean; a splash of oil left a faint sheen on the blue wash that needed a spot wash, not just a wipe. Metal swarf from the workshop bench brushed off the twill without snagging, and the twill did not pill at the cuffs or under the arms.
| Our measurement, size M | Result |
|---|---|
| Chest, pit to pit | 57.5 cm |
| Shoulder, seam to seam | 49 cm |
| Body length, back collar to hem | 68 cm |
| Sleeve, shoulder seam to cuff | 62 cm |
| Hem width, laid flat | 50 cm |
That shoulder measurement on a size M is wide for the label size, and it lines up with what the brand itself says about its denim outerwear: Ami cuts these jackets for an oversized fit and tells men to take their normal size, women one size down. Retailers carrying the brand's denim jackets describe the cloth as mid-weight, non-stretchy, and recommend taking your usual size, with broad-shouldered buyers sometimes going up. None of that is specific to this listing, and our own measurement is a single sample, so treat the table above as one data point rather than a size chart.
Stitching held through the fortnight. The embroidery on our sample is dense and flat, with no loose threads, puckering or skipped stitches, and it survived the wear log without snagging on keys or a bag strap. Buttons stayed tight, and the buttonholes did not stretch with use.
Care, and why the embroidery is the vulnerable part
This is where the brand's own guidance and the community guidance agree, and it is worth repeating for the jacket even though the published notes we found were written about Ami's cotton tees. Sizing and care advice for Ami cotton pieces describes the fabric as mid-to-heavyweight with a substantial hand-feel that resists show-through, and notes slight first-wash shrinkage even with cold hand washing and flat drying.
Washing inside out on cold and gentle, or by hand, extends the life of the embroidery considerably; avoid rubbing the motif area directly. High-heat tumble drying deforms the heart motif and shrinks the garment.
For the same brand's denim jackets, retailer care lines list dry cleaning. The listing here says machine washable with a press-free finish, and the two claims are not the same promise. We washed our sample once, cold, inside out, on a short cycle, and air-dried it flat. No visible shrinkage or motif change followed, but one cycle is not a durability verdict, and a hot dryer would be a different test.
Fit, sizing and the swoop of the brand
Ami's denim jackets are cut oversized by design and worn true to size by the brand's own advice, which means the S-XXL range here should behave the way the retail version does: roomy through the chest with wide armholes. Community sizing notes on Ami heart pieces describe shoulder seams sitting roughly 2-3 cm outside the natural shoulder point, with a body length that is not shortened for shorter frames, which can read long on wearers under about 165-168 cm. That same discussion notes some buyers reporting a regular, true-to-size fit on a different Ami piece at their usual size, so the range of experience is real rather than a single consensus.
On the brand itself, discussion is mixed. Some buyers feel the label's moment has cooled while other accessible-luxury names gained ground. That does not change how the jacket fits, but it does affect resale expectations and how quickly a specific colourway goes stale.
Price, and what you are actually paying for
At $45.97 against a $50.00 original, the reference price is the lowest we have logged on an Ami-style denim jacket at this desk. Delivered cost is higher, because agent service fees and international shipping are added at checkout. For comparison, brand denim jackets retail far above this level, so the reference figure is a sourcing price rather than a discount off retail, and it should be read that way.
What we could not verify
- Fibre content. One field says cotton, another says cotton-linen. We could not confirm which applies to a given variant, and the fabric name affects both drape and shrinkage.
- Sleeve length. The variant list mixes long-sleeve and short-sleeve jacket names, while the base description describes a classic jacket.
- Per-variant measurements. The listing gives a 1-3 mm tolerance but no chart, and our size M numbers describe the one piece we bought.
- Source metadata. The page's own search metadata refers to a navy T-shirt rather than a denim jacket, another sign the listing was built by copying a template across products.
- Wash durability. One cold hand-wash cycle tells us nothing about ten.
Before you check out
- Ask the agent for the exact variant code and a photo of that code on the packaging.
- Ask for the sleeve length you want in writing, and a flat measurement of the chest and body length in your size.
- Ask for QC photos of the heart embroidery placement on the actual piece.
- Confirm whether the fabric is cotton or a cotton-linen blend before paying.
Where does the heart embroidery sit on the jacket?
On our size M sample the embroidered heart sits on the left chest panel, matching how the brand places Ami de Coeur on its denim jackets. Ask the agent for QC photos of the actual piece before it ships.
Can I put it in a tumble dryer?
We would not. The listing says machine washable with a press-free finish, but the brand lists dry cleaning for its denim jackets, and community guidance warns that hot drying deforms the motif and shrinks cotton. We washed cold, inside out, and air-dried flat.
Is $45.97 a sale price?
The listing shows $45.97 USD against a $50.00 original. That is a sourcing price, not a discount off brand retail, and agent service fees plus international shipping are added at checkout, so the delivered cost is higher.
